Jackson Meadows Camping Trip

Owen's first camping trip was so much fun. The Rist family welcomed us to their annual family camping trip at Jackson Meadows Reservoir, North West of Truckee. Every day we woke up early to enjoy the fresh mountain air - ok, actually Owen woke us up and dragged us out of bed before the rest of camp. We took Owen's red wagon, and did lots of laps around camp and down to the lake. The lake was really "not that bad," and not as cold as expected, which was a good thing since it was our only shower. Owen loved splashing in the shallow water and watching the dogs swim out to fetch sticks. Owen was the good luck charm when we were fishing - he caught two fish on his first time out. Pene and Jax had a great time too; they loved hiking and swimming and playing with all the other dogs.



So I read somewhere that dirt and smoke are great for bug repellent, and I figured we might as well let Owen get as dirty as possible. It was pretty funny when he rubbed his eyes with fistfuls of dirt and made big brown eye patches. The kid was pretty filthy the whole week. We kept him in pants and socks and shoes since he was crawling everywhere and just changed his outfit when he got too dirty or muddy to pick up. He was pretty happy to sit in the dirt and fill cups with rocks or find cool sticks to bang on everything.

Lick-it, not just for dogs anymore

The boys were picking some of our first tomatoes of the season when Owen decided he would just keep one for himself.



First he carried it around the yard, played with it in the water table. Then he took it to the dog's lick-it and washed it off.


But he soon realized he was thirsty from his busy afternoon and if the dogs could do it they why shouldn't he?!

Mr. Clean

Every toddler should have a water table. Owen plays at his every day. And the dogs like it too.

How things work

Owen is at a stage always trying to figure out how thing work. He watches the dogs drink from their lick-it and then just has to try it himself.

Class of 192000 HS reunion

The class of 192000 (nice typo - class encounters) had an awesome reunion an we were there. We had 4 tables of people enjoying a chicken dinner and grooving to 90s iPod music. Adam and I had a bet about how many would show up, I Won! Only 26 showed for dinner and less than 50 total the whole night but it got close. Just a couple more and Adam would have taken the win. It was a good thing we can make our own fun.

Swim Class

Owen had a great week at Turtle swim class. He learned how to do front floats, front kicks, lots of bubbles, back floats, back kicks and even practiced arm strokes. It was so much fun for all of us and Owen is really comfortable in the pool.

Baby's First Dunking

Adam got the mean day and dunked Owen for the first time. He was not happy and gave Adam the most disappointed look. "Why would you do that to me Daddy, I love you."

First day at swim class

The Turtle group is getting ready to jump in for the first day of class. Owen did great today. They practiced blowing bubbles and hand crawls on the wall. He didn't quite get the bubble blowing but he did get a couple mouthfuls of water.

Birthday Hugs are the Very Best Kind

One year ago our baby pterodactyl screeched into this world and since then we have not stopped smiling. We are so lucky to have this awesome little man in our lives and we have so many friends and family members who shared this special day with us.

Of course we had a 7-eleven themed party with slurpees, hot dogs, nacho cheese sauce and birthday cake. The resident artist (Daddy) welcomed guests with some chalk art and he also decorated the birthday cake. The cake took a whole household to make, Mommy baked, Great Uncle Jimmy made icing and Grandpa helped with the bases.

Owen got spoiled with lots of great gifts. And yes, he liked the wrapping paper the best. But after we cleaned it up, he shared his toys with cousin Stone and they played with everything. Owen loves hammers and he got two - which he carried around all afternoon.

Then we had cake! Owen was not shy, he enjoyed our modified version of the happy birthday song, from the Pooh balloon Ryan brought him in the hospital when he was born (we got another one this year). The mini cake was just Owens size and he dug right in, licking the icing off the cake and going at it face first. He is such a ham, that when people laughed it just egged him on and he started getting icing everywhere.

We hope everyone had as good a time as we had and we are so thankful that everyone came all the way out to celebrate with us!

Puppy Hugs

Ryan's week

Ryan came to zoo camp this week and stayed with us. He is so good with the baby and Owen just couldn't take his eyes off him. Adam took Ryan to a Rivercats game to celebrate his birthday a couple months early.
